What is a cable syscode?

Posted by on Oct 15, 2013 in Radio and Cable, Smartpedia | 0 comments

Unlike a TV broadcast market, a cable market is broken down into many smaller sections based on where cable companies have coverage. These cable sections or systems can be as small as a couple zip codes, or as large as several counties. The systems have names based on the Cable Company (Comcast, Time Warner, etc) and location (Fairfax, VA, Orange County, etc). For simplicity’s sake each system is given a four digit numerical code or syscode (short for system code), similar to TV and Radio four digit call letters. For example the full name for the Washington DC interconnect is “Comcast/Washington Interconnect, DC”, while the syscode is just 6030.
