Thomas (Thom) Carroll, Senior Media Strategist
As a leader in the advertising industry, Thomas (Thom) Carroll joined Smart Media Group as a Senior Media Strategist in early 2006.
Prior to joining Smart Media Group, Thom was a founding partner of a leading media planning and buying agency in Washington, D.C. His experience spans over 30 years in both the advertising agency and broadcast industries.
Thom began his media career as a media planner/buyer with Ogilvy & Mather Advertising in New York City working on major national and local accounts, including American Express, Lever Bros., Kimberly Clark, Hershey Foods, Mercedes-Benz, Sears Dept. Stores and Nationwide Insurance. While at the agency, Thom also headed up broadcast operations for their subsidiary company, Ogilvy & Mather Partners. This group was designed to handle smaller and retail oriented accounts in the New York market. Also, while at the agency he spearheaded the implementation of a computer buying and accounting invoice reconciliation system for all offices throughout the country.
Following Ogilvy, Thom joined Blair Television in New York where he first worked as a sale Account Executive and subsequently as a Vice-President/Sales Manager for their ABC stations division. In addition, Thom worked for 4 years with CBS in New York handling national advertising sales for the CBS owned and operated stations.
A native of New York, Thom is a graduate of St. Peter’s College with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Following college, Thom served for three years as a Lieutenant in the USMC with service as a Platoon Commander with the 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam. This tour was followed by a final year of duty as the Marine Liaison Officer at the US Naval Hospital in San Diego, when he left the service to pursue a business career.
Thom is married with five children and resides with his family in Alexandria, VA.
